On one side of the extension, we created a wet shower area and utility room, while the other side became a light-filled oak-framed sunroom, opening directly into the lounge. A new garage was also added. Working from the architect’s plans, we managed the project from start to finish over six months. This included hanging new internal oak doors, installing radiators, fitting the bathroom, and redecorating throughout. Outside, we fully landscaped the grounds — setting levels, building sleeper walls, and creating slate terraces to the rear and brick paths to the side. On the roof, we replaced the guttering and installed new fascias, leaving a polished and functional home inside and out. Redesigning for Clearer, Wider Outlooks

Redesigning for Clearer, Wider Outlooks Projects | Forest Row W Smithers & Sons Facebook Linkedin X-twitter Instagram Perched above a basement apartment, this rooftop balcony offers sweeping views of the Sussex countryside. To open up the space, we replaced the original stone structure with glass — revealing uninterrupted vistas and allowing more natural light into the home. A glass balustrade was installed, composite decking laid, and the surrounding stonework carefully repointed. We also upgraded the cladding on the main house to a durable composite material, eliminating the need for regular painting and reducing long-term maintenance costs for the homeowner. Pool house exterior refreshAs part of the wider project, we refurbished the exterior of the pool house — repointing the brickwork, securing and tidying the structure, and laying new Indian sandstone paving to complete the finish. Creating a light, spacious family room

A bright, new extension

Creating a light, spacious family room Projects | Tunbridge Wells W Smithers & Sons Facebook Linkedin X-twitter Instagram The family wanted a space that worked for everyone — somewhere they could all enjoy together. Working from the architect’s plans, we built a new, lighter, brighter kitchen-diner tailored to modern family life. The project began with the demolition of existing internal and external walls. We installed structural steelwork to support the rear of the house, laid new concrete foundations, and built the new structure — including floor joists and a flat roof. Inside, we installed stud partitions, fixed plasterboard to the ceiling, and completed a full plaster finish. We carried out all electrical works, as well as plumbing and heating alterations, and completed the wall tiling — delivering a fully finished shell, ready for the new kitchen to be fitted.
